HA Staff Report

Well, it
hasn’t taken long to reveal that the Hoosier Crossroads Conference race is
going to be a topsy-turvy affair. Friday night’s results redden the faces of
preseason predictors and jumbled the standings.

We told you
last week that the Westfield-Avon game was going to have a big impact on the
league race, and indeed it did. The Shamrocks clubbed the Orioles 24-13. That
made Avon, a preseason co-favorite, 0-2 out of the gate. It also left Westfield
at the top of the standings along with an unexpected cast. They join
Brownsburg, Zionsville, and Fishers at 2-0.

Brownsburg
travelled to Lucas Oil Stadium and picked up its second win, 14-7 over
Noblesville. Fishers handed another of the conference favorites, Hamilton
Southeastern, a 10-6 setback. Finally, Zionsville continued to be the most
impressive team in the early going. The Eagles clubbed McCutcheon 54-3.

Harrison
blistered Lafayette Jeff 50-14. Keep in mind the Raiders only lost to Westfield
by a single point. Do not count them out in the title chase.

This coming
Friday, the highlight affair will feature Fishers journeying to Westfield. That
contest will thin the ranks of the unbeaten one way or another. The other
contest to watch is Avon travelling to Harrison. The Orioles certainly qualify
as a desperate team right now. Meanwhile, Harrison will need this one to stay
in the conference chase.
