DANVILLE – Class 3A second-ranked Danville made it 2 for 2 this season over 4A neighboring Avon, downing the Orioles 58-49 on its home floor Jan. 9 to capture the Hendricks County Tournament title.

Purdue-bound Travis Carroll led all scorers with 24 points and added 15 rebounds to help push the Warriors’ impressive record to 10-0. Jordan Weidner and Michael Humphrey joined the 6’10” senior in double figures with 10 points apiece.
For Danville, which turned a tight 31-25 contest at the half into an 80-54 blowout win the first time these teams met at Avon Dec. 4.
Avon (6-4) was led by the 14 points of junior Juan Sarver, while classmate Dominique Blackmon added 12 points and sophomore Austin Burgett had 10.
The win was Danville’s ninth county title, pushing the Warriors ahead of Avon (eight) for the third-most in Hendricks County history. Brownsburg leads the way with 18 county crowns, while Plainfield has a dozen.
In the evening’s consolation game, Brownsburg (3-8) overcame a game-high 24 points by Plainfield 6’4 junior Chris Page to slip past the Quakers (4-7), 54-52.
